How we started

Painthouse began when Gigi Chen moved to Eindhoven as an expat. She longed for connection, with locals, other expats, and the city’s creative community. She noticed how many people wanted to paint, draw, or craft, but hesitated, afraid they weren’t “good enough.”

A year later, Gigi met Babett, and everything clicked. Two artists, two expats, sharing a passion for creativity and connection. Gigi brought the vision, Babett brought the heart, and together they created Painthouse: a space where art and community come alive.

We grew up in a world before screens ruled our lives, and now live in one shaped by them. That perspective guides everything we do. We believe in the power of making and connecting in real life. In an age where so much happens online, we bring people back to the real world,

to touch,

to create,

to converse,

Gigi Chen — Founder

Gigi Chen is a Taiwanese artist based in Eindhoven. Curious, ambitious, and concept-driven, she designs experiences that invite people to explore their creativity without fear or judgment. She believes art is everywhere in everyday life, you just need the right space to notice it.

At Painthouse, Gigi leads concept development, event design, and partnerships, turning ideas into workshops and experiences that are accessible, playful, and encouraging. Her goal is to create moments where people can try, enjoy, and believe in themselves, discovering the joy of making and connecting in real life.

Babett — Co-Founder

Babett is a Hungarian illustrator and designer, deeply attuned to people, relationships, and creativity. Warm, empathetic, and emotionally intuitive, she is the heart of the Painthouse community.

Her creativity informs every part of the experience. From designing visual elements to crafting playful, imaginative ways for participants to engage with art, Babett ensures every workshop feels alive, welcoming, and full of possibilities. She fosters trust and connection, turning each event into a space where curiosity, self-expression, and community thrive.

Become our volunteers

Our events wouldn’t be possible without the incredible energy and dedication of our volunteers. By joining the team, you’re not just helping behind the scenes, you’re becoming an essential part of creating  our community.

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, build connections, and become more involved in our creative circle. Many of us are expats or young locals looking for connection and a sense of belonging, and our volunteers play a key role in making everyone feel welcome and at home. We take care of the ticketing and planning so you can focus on what really matters: creating a warm, supportive atmosphere.

As a thank-you for your support, you’ll receive a €10 discount code for each event you volunteer at. You can use this code to purchase any ticket for our upcoming events,  whether it’s for yourself or to bring a friend along. It’s our way of making it easier for you to continue being part of the community you help create.
